Sobyanin spoke about the participation of schoolchildren in excavations on the battlefields

More than 30 Moscow school and student search teams are taking part in excavations on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War. The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, told about this on his Maks channel.

According to the head of Moscow, schoolchildren and students go on expeditions to places of military operations several times a year. "They help to explore battlefields, study archival materials, master the basics of field work and learn about the fate of the defenders of the Motherland," Sobyanin wrote.

For example, the Flame search team of school No. 1788, which has been operating since 2016, found the remains of nine participants in the Battle for Moscow and the mass grave of five Red Army soldiers, the mayor said. Participants of the military-patriotic search club "Outpost" of the P.A. Ovchinnikov Polytechnic College, together with the professional search team "Victory", recovered the remains of 27 soldiers of the Red Army.

Also in May of this year, pupils of the Dozor search team of the College of Automation and Information Technology No. 20 raised the remains of eight fighters, found fragments of Soviet and German weapons and military equipment. Over the 18 years of the unit's work, 45 expeditions have been conducted, and the remains of more than 950 soldiers have been found and reburied.

Sobyanin noted that 517 military-patriotic clubs have been opened in the capital's schools and colleges, which employ over 36,000 people. He stressed that "Moscow strongly encourages the patriotic education of the younger generation," which corresponds to the objectives of the national project "Youth and Children."
