The State Duma proposed to make travel free for all schoolchildren in the country
The State Duma has proposed making public transport free for all Russian schoolchildren throughout the year. At the same time, students should be given a 50% discount on public transport and commuter trains. This was announced on May 22 by the leader of the Fair Russia party, Sergei Mironov.
"Our proposal is very simple. Free transportation in any public transport is available for all students all year round. It is mandatory for students to make a 50% discount on both urban transport and commuter trains. And it's also year—round," the deputy said in an interview with TASS.
He noted that the benefits should be uniform for all regions, since now regional travel cards are valid only on the "home" territory. Mironov stressed that the state should support children and youth during their studies with the help of uniform benefits.
On June 18, Mironov said that Russia needs to introduce an annual payment to families to prepare children for the new school year. According to him, the amount of such support should be about 30-50 thousand rubles per pupil, depending on the family income level. In 2021, a one-time payment of 10,000 rubles per student was already made in Russia.
