An action "Candle of Memory" was held in Simferopol on the eve of the anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. The event took place on June 21 in Victory Square near the monument to the T-34 tank. The relevant footage is published by Izvestia.
"We are taking part in this action to honor the memory of those who died in the first days of the Great Patriotic War. <...> We must remember and not allow history to be distorted," Maria Akuratova, the organizer of the action, told Izvestia.
The participants of the action, Victory volunteers, lit candles and laid lamps in memory of those who died during the war. According to Akuratova, the event was attended by young activists who regularly preserve historical memory, conduct lessons of courage and patriotic actions.
Commemorative actions on the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Mourning on June 21 were held in Russian cities. In Kazan's Victory Park, residents of the city and activists of the Young Guard of United Russia laid out a portrait of Peter Gavrilov, the hero of the defense of the Brest Fortress, from 40 thousand candles. Symbolic installations were also lit in Tula as part of the "Fire Paintings" campaign.
