Ramiro Valdez Menendez, an associate of the Castro brothers, died at the age of 94.

Ramiro Valdez Menendez, commander of the Cuban Revolution and one of Fidel and Raul Castro's closest associates, has died at the age of 95. This was announced on June 21 by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

"The passing away of the commander of the revolution Ramiro Valdez Menendez is a deep pain, similar to the loss of his father," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Ramiro Valdez was born on April 28, 1932 and was an active participant in the Cuban Revolution, participating in the guerrilla struggle against the regime of Fulgencio Batista. He held a number of high-level government and military positions, including positions in the leadership of the armed forces and the government, and was also a member of the Politburo. For his work, he was awarded the title of Hero of Cuba and Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba.
