The younger generation of European countries is wary of turning to the history of the Second World War because of possible inconvenient historical facts. This was announced on June 21 by Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council.

"I have repeatedly met with my fellow politicians from European countries, including Western European countries. You know, I felt that your peers were very cautious about the history of the Second World War. Be careful because they are afraid, and often justifiably afraid, to discover something in this story that they cannot be proud of, and that they can only be ashamed of. Because their grandfathers and great-grandfathers turned out to be on the other side of good and evil. This is their story," TASS quoted Kosachev as saying.

According to him, Russia, in turn, is proud of its history and is not afraid to discover shameful pages in it, since "our ancestors" turned out to be on the right side of the historical process.

Alexander King, chairman of the Berlin branch of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) party, told Izvestia on June 8 that attempts to "rethink" Soviet war memorials in Berlin are part of shaping the image of the enemy in Russia. He commented on the initiatives to install additional information materials and QR codes with a new interpretation of historical events near the monuments.
