The achievement was recorded in the match of the second round of the group stage of the tournament, held in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The debutant of the world championships, the national team of Curacao, drew with the Ecuadorian team with a score of 0:0.

Rom deflected 15 shots, which was the best result in the history of the World Championships, excluding matches with extra time.

The record, including extra time, is still held by American Tim Howard, who has 16 saves in one game.

On the same day, the Ecuadorian national team failed to beat the Curaçao team in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
