An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the northern Kuril Islands, tremors were felt on the island of Paramushire. This was announced on June 21 by Elena Semenova, head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station.

"An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 with an epicenter 156 km south-east of the city of Severo-Kurilsk on Paramushir Island occurred at 9:21 (8:21 Moscow time) on June 21. The source of the tremors lay at a depth of 30 km under the seabed," the expert said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Semenova, the earthquake was felt on the island with a magnitude of 2, but no tsunami alert was issued.

On June 20, the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Center of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Kamchatka. The seismic event occurred at a distance of 171 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 34.4 km.
