Hungary will organize a referendum on Ukraine's membership in the European Union (EU) if Kiev can successfully complete negotiations with Brussels on joining the bloc. This was announced on June 20 by Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar.

"If Ukraine is able to complete negotiations at some point, a final legally binding referendum will be held on this issue, but it will not be the day after tomorrow," Magyar said during a speech to reporters in Brussels, a video posted on his YouTube channel.

According to the Prime Minister, Budapest expresses dissatisfaction with Brussels' attempts to organize Kiev's entry into the union in an accelerated manner. Magyar stressed that this approach ignores the interests of other countries that have been waiting for EU membership for many years.

On June 18, Magyar announced that, on his initiative, the clause on Ukraine's accelerated accession to the EU was deleted from the final declaration of the European Union summit. He added that negotiations on the document lasted about four hours and were accompanied by intense discussions between the participating countries.
