A young man with a knife attacked visitors to a shopping mall in Krasnodar. What is known

In Krasnodar, on June 20, an attack took place on visitors to a branch of the multifunctional center (MFC) located in the West Mall shopping center. As a result of the incident, one person was killed and five others were injured. The attacker has been detained. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

The circumstances of the incident

The incident occurred in the afternoon. A young man born in 2007 entered the Krasnodar shopping center and attacked people there with an object similar to a knife, a source told Izvestia. The attacker acted alone. After the incident, the building was evacuated.

A woman was killed in the attack, and five other visitors to the MFC were injured. Their condition is assessed as moderate in severity. There are no minors among the victims. After the attack, the attacker tried to escape, but was detained by a visitor to the shopping center before the police arrived.

Eyewitness accounts

According to eyewitnesses, after the murder of the woman, the young man rushed to the third floor. At the time of the incident, the lights were also turned off in the shopping center. According to Irina Volk, an official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, a young man threw a pyrotechnic device into the room where the children's entertainment center is located — the alarm went off there.

Visitors to the mall also said that the attacker was in an inadequate condition. One of the girls saw the attacker pouring the liquid and setting it on fire. Another woman, in a conversation with Izvestia, added that there were sounds like "shooting" in the building, some knocks, "heart-rending children's screams" and even a very strange bang. There has been no official confirmation of this.

The criminal's motives

The detainee himself said that no one paid him for the crime — the young man was "tired of living." According to the man, he wanted to kill himself and therefore attacked the shopping center. It was reported that he had previously been convicted and came to Krasnodar to work. The young man's clothes had C.R.I.M.E. written on them.

The reaction of law enforcement officers

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the incident under Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder") and Part 3 of Article 30 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Attempted murder"). The Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory announced the start of the inspection. An investigative task force is on site.
