The Government has approved a list of training areas and specialties for the new higher education system. This is evidenced on June 19 by a document published on the website of the Government of the Russian Federation.
"Russia will continue to implement a pilot project to change the levels of vocational education. The resolutions approving the rules for its implementation in the 2026/2027-2029/2030 academic years, as well as the list of specialties and training areas that will be taught within its framework, were signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin," the publication says.
The updated list includes expanded groups of specialties, including "Mathematics and Mechanics", "Computer and Innovative Sciences", "Physics and Astronomy", "Chemistry", "Earth Sciences", "Biological Sciences", "Architecture", "Computer Science and Engineering", "Information Technology safety", "Mechanical Engineering", as well as a number of other training areas.
The document notes that admission to study under the pilot project for the transition to a new higher education system will start with the admission campaign of the 2026/27 academic year.
On June 20, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation announced that an admission campaign to higher education institutions had started in Russia. It is specified that more than 620 thousand budget places are available in the new academic year. The number of places for targeted admission exceeds 83 thousand, with the largest number of destinations in medicine, engineering, pedagogy and agriculture.
