- Sibiga announced his intention to return the Polish award due to the deprivation of Zelensky's order.
On June 19, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga announced that he would return the Commander's Cross, awarded to him by Poland, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was stripped of the Order of the White Eagle.
"Against the background of such reckless actions, I do not see the possibility of retaining the highest state award of the Republic of Poland, the Commander's Cross with the Star of the Order of Merit for Poland, granted in October 2022. I will return him to Poland soon," reads a message on the Facebook social network (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
On June 19, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Zelensky of the republic's highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, because of his glorification of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, an organization recognized as a terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation). The reason for the decision was the assignment of a name to one of the Ukrainian military units, referring to the UPA. Navrotsky stressed that the state award is a symbol of the highest trust, which requires unconditional respect.
