American composer and sound designer Robert Kaskin "Bobby" Prince III, who became the author of numerous compositions for popular computer video games of the shooter genre, has died at the age of 82. This was reported on the Legacy portal on June 19.
"Robert Kaskin "Bobby" Prince III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, veteran, lawyer, musician, composer and friend, peacefully passed away at the Musical Gates of Heaven on June 16, 2026. <...> Although many around the world will remember Bobby for the music and soundscapes that helped define An entire generation of gamers, those who knew him personally, will remember something even more important: a talented, honest, humble, religious, cheerful and loving man," the message says.
The reasons for the incident are not specified. It is emphasized that the musician has numerous relatives, including his wife Connie Freeman Prince, sons Robert Kaskin Prince IV and Andrew "Christie" Prince, as well as his own sister Patricia Clark.
The obituary emphasizes that the composer will be remembered by his family and fans around the world as a kind person associated with laughter, guitar playing and support. He was distinguished by his romantic and cheerful spirit, as well as his talent not only in music, but also in other fields.
Robert Kaskin "Bobby" Prince III was born into the family of American Lieutenant Colonel Robert Prince Jr. and Dorothy Humber Prince on March 12, 1945 in Madison, Indiana, USA. He was the eldest child, whose childhood was spent constantly traveling due to the work of the head of the family. He graduated from high school in Athens, Georgia, where he discovered his aptitude for music, performing in a popular local band called "Jesters".
Bobby served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a platoon commander, and subsequently, from the late 1980s to the early 1990s, being a fairly successful lawyer, he embarked on the path to becoming a "pioneer" among composers and sound engineers in the video game industry. So, he created compositions for such iconic games as Doom, Doom II, Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad and Duke Nukem 3D, for which he was awarded various prizes.
