Sergei Kornilov, 21, who caused a massive road accident in Nizhny Novgorod, had his measure of restraint changed from a ban on certain actions to detention. This was announced on June 19 in the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The department clarified that during the investigation, the investigator decided to tighten the preventive measure for the accused. The defendant was arrested until July 23, 2026.

Kornilov was detained on May 25. A criminal case was opened against him and four administrative protocols were drawn up. Later, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions.

A source familiar with the situation on May 21 said that 21-year-old Sergey Kornilov, who caused a massive accident in Nizhny Novgorod, repeatedly got drunk behind the wheel. The source clarified that some of the young man's friends stopped communicating with him because of immoral behavior.
