Reuters has learned about the Ebola infection of more than 70 doctors in DR Congo

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 75 doctors have contracted Ebola since the outbreak began. This was reported on June 19 by the Reuters news agency, citing a statement from a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO).

"75 doctors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have become infected with the Ebola virus, and 17 of them have died since the beginning of the current outbreak in the country," the material says.

According to the agency, many doctors fell ill even before the authorities reported the outbreak of Ebola. Even now, there is a shortage of basic protective equipment such as gloves and masks.

According to WHO Director of Emergency Management Marie Roseline Belizeur, there are not enough medical workers in DR Congo. Currently, the country has a very low density of health workers: only 11 per 10,000 people.

Reuters reported on June 17 that the European Union will provide €493 million in financial assistance to combat the outbreak of fever in Central Africa. It was clarified that this amount includes the provision of medical care on the front line of response to the outbreak of the disease, humanitarian assistance in the Great Lakes region of Africa and in Uganda.

On June 9, WHO confirmed 550 cases of Ebola infection in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with 101 people becoming victims of the disease. The main focus of infection remains the province of Ituri, which accounts for 94% of the total number of cases, which is 487 people.
