A head was pulled out of the Moika River in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, the head of an unknown creature was removed from the Moika River. This was announced on June 19 by a source of Izvestia.

According to preliminary data, the discovered fragment could belong to both humans and animals. Experts will have to establish the exact origin of the find.

Later it became known that the cat found in the Moika River in St. Petersburg turned out to be a cat. The find was sent for examination.

In April, the court refused to allow historian Oleg Sokolov, who killed and dismembered his graduate student in St. Petersburg, to replace his remaining term in a high-security penal colony with forced labor due to the fact that he had reached retirement age. In 2020, the historian was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for the murder of his graduate student.

In November 2019, Sokolov killed his graduate student Anastasia Yeshchenko and dismembered her body. At the end of December 2020, the Oktyabrsky District Court decided that the historian had an intention to kill Eshchenko. Sokolov himself claimed that he killed the girl unintentionally. After that, he fully admitted his guilt and repented of what he had done. According to the accused, he was "in a state of complete insanity" during the murder of a 24-year-old girl who lived with him.

On December 25, 2020, the court sentenced Sokolov to 12.5 years in prison. On February 7, 2025, the Oktyabrsky District Court decided to destroy the physical evidence seized from Sokolov's apartment after the murder. On the same day, Sokolov's request to be sent to his home was denied.
