The appeal of machines: the film debut of a robot and a "Colony" of zombies

Mark Edelstein will reunite with the movie star from "Anora" Daria Ekamasova in the comedy drama "Gandhi was Silent on Saturdays." The Australian director will recreate one of the key episodes of the Second World War in the drama "Pressure". South Korean filmmakers will stage a zombie invasion in the horror "Colony". The road movie "Drive" will remind you of the spirit of the comedies of the 1990s. And for the first time, a real robot will play one of the main roles in the Russian film "Baby Monitor". "Gandhi was silent on Saturdays," 16+

The comedy drama starring "Russian Timothy Chalamet" is based on the play of the same name by Anastasia Bukreeva, winner of the Acting contest. The film premiered at the Shorter Film Festival.

The main character is 16—year-old Sasha, who asks to be called a Spendthrift. He lives with his mom, dad, older sister and grandfather suffering from dementia in the center of St. Petersburg. However, family dramas are hidden behind the external facade of well-being. After his father leaves the family and his mother's emotional crisis, the teenager tries to find himself and the meaning of life. The turning point is his acquaintance with a homeless woman, Lisa, who lost her son. This encounter makes Mota reflect on the fact that homelessness can be not only social, but also internal.

The leitmotif of the painting is loneliness and the search for support in a crumbling world. The film raises serious themes of growing up and family relationships, although its unusual visual style may be unusual for a mass audience.

Robonyanya, 6+

The new family comedy starring Eva Smirnova became a spin-off of the Not Alone at Home franchise and the first Russian film in which one of the main roles was played by a real Unitree G1 Basic robot. The Kukoyak family also starred in the film: bloggers Denis and Elena played the parents of the main character, and their daughter Vasilisa made her film debut.

In the story, Zlata stays at home alone while the family goes on vacation. The parents assign a robot with artificial intelligence named Notrix to monitor the girl. Together with her friend Nikita, Zlata tries to outwit a high-tech babysitter, but their venture leads to a series of unexpected and comical events.

The light family comedy will appeal to viewers of all ages. Despite the entertaining format, the film speaks about trust, responsibility and mutual understanding in the family.

"Pressure", 18+

Directed by Anthony Maras. Starring: Brendan Fraser, Andrew Scott, Kerry Condon, Chris Messina, Damian Lewis

The action takes place during the Second World War. The film is based on the real events of 1944. The plot focuses on the tense 72 hours before the start of Operation Overlord. Forecaster Irving Creek is convinced that June 5 will be the perfect day for the Allied landings in Normandy. However, meteorologist James Stagg warns of an impending storm and insists on postponing the operation. The price of a mistake is too high: any delay can not only disrupt a carefully prepared offensive, but also reveal the plans of the allies to the German command. General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the future president of the United States, faces a painful choice on which the fate of thousands of soldiers depends.

The main battlefield in this picture is not on the coast of Normandy, but in the staff offices, where decisions are made under enormous pressure of time and circumstances. The film focuses not so much on military operations as on the people who have to take responsibility for the course of history. Thanks to the expressive characters, devoid of stereotypical heroism, and the expertly inflated atmosphere of anxiety, the drama keeps you in suspense until the very end.

"Colony", 18+

The rise of zombies and the struggle of people for life in extreme conditions is a familiar theme for South Korean cinema. The premiere of the film took place as part of an out-of-competition program at the Cannes Film Festival. And at home, horror has already become a rental leader.

The director of "Colony," Yong Sang Ho, who became famous for the zombie hit "Train to Busan," revisits the theme of survival in a confined space and once again plays on the feeling of claustrophobia. Only if last time people were fighting for survival on the train, now they are in the business center.

Biotechnology professor Kwon Sae-jong arrives at an industry conference hoping to find a job. Among the participants of the event is the scientist Soo Yong Chol, who is obsessed with revenge on former employers. He injects the CEO of the corporation with a virus, turning him into a zombie. The only person protected from infection is the attacker himself, who has vaccinated himself in advance. Now Kwon Sae-jong and the other survivors will have to prevent the apocalypse.

Drive, 18+

Directed by Bobby Farrelly. Starring: Sam Nivola, Sofia Telegadis, Mohana Krishnan, Aidan Jace, Laila Pate

The comedy road movie was directed by Bobby Farrelly, one of the creators of the films Dumb and Dumber and Everybody's Crazy about Mary. In the story, teenager Jeremy steals a school car and goes on a road trip with his friends to save his relationship with his girlfriend Samantha.

The film combines elements of comedy, action and melodrama. And although the action takes place in the present day, the film is permeated with the atmosphere of the 1990s. The themes of friendship and growing up here are organically intertwined with rude humor, adventurous adventures and racy scenes.
