In St. Petersburg, the explosion of a powerbank caused a fire in an apartment. This was reported to Izvestia on June 18 by the owner of the device, Julia.
According to her, nothing foreshadowed trouble, as the gadget had been working properly for six months.
"I unplugged it from charging, put it on the bed, and everything was fine for two hours while I was packing. A couple of minutes before the explosion, I went into another room and there was a loud bang — I thought it was from the street. After that, mom screamed," the girl shared.
The fire was extinguished only on the third attempt. As a result of the incident, the ceiling and walls of the apartment were covered with soot, the bed and mattress were damaged.
"The scariest thing is that there were no prerequisites. <...> I used it very rarely, during all this time it was charged 6-10 times at most," Yulia emphasized.
She noted that the incident occurred on a day off when the whole family was at home. Otherwise, according to the girl, the explosion of the device could have led to much more serious consequences.
In March last year, an apartment in Nizhnevartovsk burned down due to an exploding portable battery. A local resident left the battery charging overnight, but the power bank overheated and exploded. As a result of the incident, six people were rescued, including a child.
