- The psychologist spoke about the growing demand for a national code in children's design
A new consumer trend is forming in the children's goods market: parents, especially mothers, are gradually moving away from Scandinavian minimalism and bright cartoon aesthetics in favor of more complex visual solutions with a cultural code. Anna Semenenko, a psychologist and a representative of Paomma, told Izvestia about this on June 22.
According to the expert, for a long time the dominant trend was the so—called "beige moms" trend - choosing a calm, muted color scheme and rejecting any "overloading" visual elements. However, today this approach is beginning to transform.
"Sterile minimalism began to drive the consumer into the framework of facelessness. It is being replaced by a demand for "smart aesthetics" and national identity in a modern interpretation," Semenenko said.
The expert explained that parents still avoid overly bright and aggressive prints, but they are beginning to look for a balance between a calm visual environment and educational elements. In this context, soft ornaments, stylized national motifs and more complex graphic solutions are increasingly in demand.
Separately, the psychologist drew attention to the fact that moderate visual saturation is important for the development of the child. According to her, ornaments and rhythmic patterns help shape visual perception, coordination, and imagination. As an example, Semenenko cited traditional images and objects adapted to modern design. According to her, even classical shapes, such as a matryoshka doll, can perform a developmental function, helping a child to master the basic concepts of shape, size and logic.
At the same time, the specialist noted that the request for "national aesthetics" does not mean a return to straightforward symbolism. Modern parents, on the contrary, avoid overly literal use of patriotic images and reject stylization in a "souvenir" way.
"Sharply flashy symbols and unnecessarily straightforward solutions cause rejection. Parents need a subtle, accurate presentation," the expert emphasized.
According to Semenenko, muted shades, fabulous illustrations and modern reworking of traditional motifs that look aesthetically pleasing and organic in a child's daily environment are in demand today.
SOKOLOV expert Elena Rakutina shared with Izvestia on June 19 tips on choosing the first jewelry and warnings about common mistakes. The specialist advises paying special attention to the material. Products made of high-grade gold or high-quality silver are considered the most suitable for children. These metals are well tolerated by the skin and are much less likely to cause irritation. But it is better to abandon jewelry and jewelry made of base alloys, since prolonged contact with such materials can provoke allergic reactions even in children without severe sensitivity.
