Trump will appeal to US companies producing missiles for Ukraine and Europe
American leader Donald Trump plans to appeal to the enterprises of the US defense industry with a request to establish the production of weapons under license in European countries and in Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg on June 17, citing sources.
The Trump administration will consider licensing European manufacturers, as U.S. stocks have been depleted in Iran. Trump confirmed the plans at the G7 summit in France.
"Specific licenses will be discussed in detail between the participating countries. This really involves the provision of comprehensive licenses by American companies to European manufacturers," German Chancellor Friedrich Merz told reporters.
Merz said that the shortage of production can be filled by transferring production licenses to companies from Europe and Ukraine with the necessary production capabilities.
In addition, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed at the final press conference of the G7 summit that Trump insisted on using the potential of the US defense industry to produce and supply the necessary equipment.
Earlier in the day, Trump allowed Ukraine to transfer a license to produce missiles for the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
The New York Times reported on June 13 that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are facing a shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. According to experts, the insufficient pace of the transfer of demanded missiles to Ukraine deprives the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the chance to create an integrated air defense system.
