On June 17, Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov said at a meeting on the progress of the fire season, which was held by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, that the situation with fires in Russia is under control.

"In general, the situation remains controlled and is characterized by a decrease in key indicators compared to the same period last year," RIA Novosti quoted Kurenkov as saying.

The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said that the units of the Unified State Emergency Prevention and Response System continue to keep it under constant control.

Patrushev earlier that day during the meeting noted the effectiveness of measures to control wildfires. The event was attended by representatives of federal agencies and governors. It was noted that the spring stage of the forest fire season has already been completed, but the peak of the fire season has not yet passed. According to forecasts of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service, the greatest fire danger is expected in the Far East, Siberia and the central part of Russia.
