Relations between Russia and Malaysia are developing well and are at a remarkable level. This was stated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on June 17.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for your hospitality and welcome, for the organized reception in Kazan. Thank you to your entire delegation. And I thank the head of the Republic of Tatarstan and his team. We have had a wonderful relationship in recent years. We have a lot of good events. The relationship is developing," Ibrahim said.
According to him, Malaysian supreme ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ismail considers Putin his friend and wants to develop relations with Russia. He also stated Malaysia's desire to develop air links between the two countries.
At the same time, Anwar Ibrahim noted that Russia is important in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and can play a major role in the countries of the region.
Putin, in turn, said that Malaysia is a reliable Russian partner in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the Russian leader, the state appreciates that Malaysia supports the development of Russia's strategic partnership with ASEAN. The head of state also asked the Prime Minister to convey his best wishes to the country's supreme ruler Sultan Ibrahim.
On the same day, Putin said that the strategic partnership between Russia and ASEAN is an important stabilizing factor in the Asia-Pacific region. He specified that during the summit, together with his colleagues, they would be able to exchange views in detail on ways to strengthen peace and security in the region in the current international conditions.
