RFU has made changes to the rules of the Russian Cup
The Russian Football Union (RFU) has amended the rules of the Russian Cup in the 2026/27 season. This was announced on June 17 by the RFU press service.
According to the updated rules, the names of the playoff stages have been changed. The relegation matches in the "Paths of the Russian Premier League" (RPL) and "Paths of the Regions" will now start with the 1/8 finals instead of the 1/4 finals, as it was before.
It is noted that both sets of the tournament will end with semifinal matches, and the decisive game for the trophy will again be called the final, not the Superfinal.
In addition, in the 1/8 finals of the RPL Path, the second-place teams in their groups will host the first games. In the 1/4 and 1/2 finals, the home field advantage will be given to the clubs that scored fewer points in the group stage compared to their rivals.
Also in the "Path of the Regions" in the second stage of the 1/8 finals, the hosts will be clubs that do not represent the RPL. If two RPL teams meet in a pair, the home field will be given to the club that lost in the 1/8 finals of the RPL Path.
On the same day, it was reported that the final match of the Russian Football Cup in the 2026/27 season is scheduled for June 6. According to the approved schedule, the Path of the Regions stage will start at the end of July this year (on the 29th), and representatives of the RPL Path will join the fight in early August (on the 5th). These stages of the competition are scheduled to end on November 25, 2026.
