The nuclear submarine Murmansk of the Yasen-M project was laid down at Sevmash

A solemn ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the Yasen-M multipurpose nuclear submarine Murmansk was held at the Sevmash shipbuilding enterprise in Severodvinsk. The ceremony on June 17 was attended by representatives of the Navy, the Office of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), industry and the USC Malakhit Design Bureau.

They noted the importance of the event for strengthening the country's defense capability. The foundation board on the section of the Murmansk agro-industrial complex was installed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral of the Fleet Alexander Moiseev and CEO of Sevmash Mikhail Budnichenko. Thus, the construction of the ninth missile carrier of a series of multipurpose nuclear submarines (submarines) of the project has been launched.

"The submarines of this project embody the most advanced achievements of Russian science, technology, and unique design solutions. They are modern, effective naval combat systems capable of solving the full range of naval combat missions independently and as part of diverse naval groups in almost any area of the World Ocean, while remaining secretive and invisible to others," said Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander—in-Chief of the Russian Navy.

He added that the submarine forces are an important component of the Russian Navy, responsible for the security and sovereignty of the country. In the future, their construction programs will be implemented and further developed.

"I am convinced that the Murmansk submarine will continue the glorious history of the hero city and the Northern Fleet, and will be the pride of Murmansk residents and submariners. I am confident that <...> thanks to the professionalism of Sevmash shipbuilders, the submarine will be built on time and with high quality," Moiseev said.

The lead submarine of the Yasen-M project, Kazan, was transferred to the Navy in 2021. Then three more submarines were built and joined the fleet: Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Arkhangelsk.

The Project 971 submarine has been put to the test after many years of repairs and may return to service in the coming months.

On June 10, USC presented a mock-up of the Amur-1650 non-nuclear submarine with vertical launchers and an air-independent power plant at the FLEET-2026 International Naval Salon in Kronstadt. They noted that the Amur-1650 is characterized by high stealth, reduced noise and a modern sonar system.
