The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, is trying to establish contact with the Kremlin to discuss the possible start of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin on resolving the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by Bloomberg on June 17, citing sources.

"Costa's chief adviser held two telephone conversations with a senior Russian official close to Putin in order to prepare the ground for more meaningful talks in the future," said one of the sources, who wished to remain anonymous because these are private matters," the publication says.
