Likhachev announced plans to return Russian specialists to Bushehr NPP
The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project remains one of Rosatom's priorities, and Russian specialists will gradually return to work there. This was announced on June 17 by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state corporation, during the Russia—ASEAN summit in Kazan.
He noted that employees will be able to return to the Islamic Republic as soon as the risks of attacks on the country are minimized.
"As soon as we understand that the risk of impacts has been minimized, the risk to the life and health of our employees has been minimized, we will begin a phased return to the site. We are ready for this, such plans have been developed, they have been agreed with the country's leadership," he told reporters.
Likhachev added that the Bushehr NPP project is a priority of Rosatom, which respects its customers. In addition, Russia is primarily concerned about resolving the Iranian nuclear issue.
"Of course, we did not remove the Bushehr station from our priorities. And the work on the equipment at our metallurgical sites and machine-building sites continues and has not stopped for a minute. Despite the difficulties, including with financing," said the head of Rosatom.
On June 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia sees Israel's readiness to ensure the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran. The Head of State clarified that as soon as the situation in this area normalizes, the Russian side will resume work on the construction of nuclear facilities there jointly with Tehran.
On May 8, Likhachev announced the gradual resumption of construction of the second power unit of the Bushehr NPP. He said that at the same time, the number of Iranian personnel at the facility is growing. According to the head of Rosatom, about 2.2 thousand people returned there. On May 26, he called any military impact on Bushehr and its entire infrastructure unacceptable.
