In the Russian used passenger car market, 70% of cars are aged 10 years and older. This was announced on June 17 at the ASP-2026 forum by Sergey Udalov, Executive Director of the Autostat analytical agency.

According to him, this share has even decreased over the past year, reaching 72% in the first four months of 2025. The decrease in the share of "old" cars is explained by the increase in the number of more "fresh" cars of Chinese and domestic brands.

Thus, in the segment of brands from China, the indicator decreased from 30% to 20% over the year, while the share of Russian brands decreased from 80% to 75%. At the same time, among the cars older than 10 years of those brands that left the Russian market, their share in the secondary market increased from 71% to 73% over the year.

In addition, as Udalov shared, in just the first four months of this year, Russians purchased 105.5 thousand used Chinese passenger cars. Their sales increased by 45% over the year, while the entire market increased by only 5%. The share of Chinese-made cars in the "secondary market" has increased from last year's 4.1% to the current 5.7%. 56% of the Chinese used car market is under the age of three years, almost every third (32%) used car purchased is three years old, and about every fifth (21%) is two years old.

It also became known at the conference that Russians this year bought almost five times more used cars than new ones (the ratio is 4.9:1). In other words, for every new car purchased, there are now almost five used cars.

As previously reported on this day, 2.39 million used cars were sold in Russia in the first five months of 2026. This figure is 5.5% higher than the results for the same period last year.
