Russian Central Election Commission approves three-day State Duma elections

The elections of deputies of the State Duma of the ninth convocation and other elections scheduled for September 20, 2026, will be held over three days — from September 18 to September 20. The corresponding resolution was adopted by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation on June 17.

"We accept the resolution <...>, fourteen people in favor, one abstained," CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova said at a meeting of the commission.

According to the document, voting in the elections of deputies of the State Duma and other combined elections and referendums scheduled for September 20 will be held on September 18, 19 and 20.

Pamfilova noted during the meeting that three-day voting has already become a tradition for the electoral system. According to her, this is confirmed by opinion polls: people get the opportunity to plan their time, and the burden on election commissions is distributed more evenly.

The party will provide special attention and benefits during the preliminary voting to its veterans.

The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the appointment of elections to the State Duma for September 20, 2026. Elections to the State Duma are held every five years. The current convocation was elected in September 2021.

Pamfilova announced on May 28 that elections to the State Duma would be held within three days. She clarified that 12 political parties will be able to participate in the State Duma elections in 2026 without collecting signatures. 18 political parties in Russia have the right to participate in elections at various levels.
