The founder of Amazon announced the risk of labor shortages due to the development of AI

Widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their development will lead to a shortage of labor. This was announced on June 17 by Amazon founder Jeffrey Bezos.

He noted that the introduction of AI will lead to an increase in personnel hunger in companies, and not to the complete replacement of people with algorithms.

"In fact, AI will create a shortage of labor. <...> We have an infinite number of things that can be invented," Breaking The News quotes him as saying.

Bezos added that he is committed to developing technologies that will propel humanity into a new era.

According to him, data processing specialists, basic copywriters, junior programmers and support staff are at risk. So, in January 2026, the same Amazon confirmed that it would cut about 16 thousand jobs, which is almost 10% of the total number of employees.

At the end of October 2025, it became known about Amazon's plans to reduce about 14 thousand people, as the company expands investments in artificial intelligence. As part of the reduction procedure, the company will provide these employees with 90 days to search for new vacancies within the organization. The company clarified that such employees will be considered for new positions as a matter of priority.
