The main traditions of celebrating the Apple Savior are connected not so much with the consecration of fruits as with the spiritual meaning of the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, which Orthodox Christians celebrate on August 19. It serves as a reminder of man's inner transformation and gratitude to God for His gifts. The dean of the Baltai district of the Saratov diocese, Priest Oleg Zhilyakov, told Izvestia about this.

The priest recalled that Yablochny Spas is the popular name for one of the most important church holidays, the Transfiguration of the Lord, which is one of the twelve. According to him, the celebration is based on the gospel event when Christ revealed His divine glory to the disciples on Mount Tabor.

"The meaning of the holiday is not in apples and not in external traditions. The main thing is a call for the spiritual transformation of a person, to change his life, to strive for God," Zhilyakov emphasized.

He noted that the consecration of fruits on this day is an ancient tradition, but it has a symbolic character. Believers bring apples, grapes, and other fruits of the new harvest to the temple to thank God for the food and labor He has given them.

"Sanctification is, first of all, an expression of gratitude. A person bears the first fruits and thereby shows that he understands that everything he has is a gift from God," the priest explained.

At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the tradition of consecration itself should not replace the spiritual content of the holiday. According to Zhilyakov, it is important not to limit oneself to external actions, but to try to spend this day with benefits for the soul.

"If a person confines himself only to sanctifying fruits, he misses the main point. The holiday encourages us to think about our own lives and try to change them," he concluded.
