The priest named the nuts for consecration on the Walnut Savior

Any products of the new harvest, including nuts, can be consecrated on the Walnut Savior. This was announced by Priest Ilya Savastyanov in a conversation with Izvestia.

According to him, the tradition of consecrating the harvest is connected with the fact that believers rely on God in every action, therefore, after receiving the harvest, they thank Him. The priest added that prayer at the consecration of fruits includes not only gratitude, but also a request for the blessing of the gifts brought.

"The same applies to nuts, so for any harvest you can and should thank God and ask for His blessing so that the products benefit consumers," Savastyanov said.

He also stressed that for an Orthodox person on a holiday, participation in worship is paramount, and any rituals and rituals are superstitious.

"Any rituals do not belong to the Orthodox faith, as a rule, they are freshly invented superstitions, which are a sin from the point of view of the evangelical faith," the priest pointed out.

Walnut Savior, also called the Third Savior, has a fixed date in the church calendar and is celebrated annually on August 29. In 2026, the holiday falls on a Saturday. It follows immediately after one of the key Orthodox celebrations, the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is celebrated on August 28. In folk tradition, the Walnut Savior completes the cycle of Orthodox summer holidays and symbolizes the transition from the completion of field work to autumn cares and preparations for the winter period.

Earlier, the dean of the Baltai district of the Saratov diocese, Priest Oleg Zhilyakov, told Izvestia which fruits are consecrated on Honey and Apple Saviors.
