In the first five months of 2026, 2.39 million used cars were sold in Russia. This figure is 5.5% higher than the results for the same period last year. This was announced by Sergey Udalov, Executive Director of the Autostat analytical agency, on June 17 at the ASP-2026 Forum conference, the Izvestia correspondent reports.

In the mass segment, the used car market grew by 4.5%, and in the premium segment — by 12.5%. At the same time, most of the transactions with used cars are for models older than 10 years, they account for 73% of all used cars sold, Udalov emphasized.

"There is an obvious increase in sales of used cars of Chinese brands. If in 2023 their share was 2%, now it is almost 6%," the expert noted.

At the same time, the volume of used car imports from China is growing, Udalov said. They currently account for 27% of the total number of used cars imported. At the same time, models of global brands, not Chinese, are mainly imported from China, among which Volkswagen is the leader with a share of 26.3%. The top five also included Audi, Toyota, Honda and BMW.

The most popular aftermarket models among Chinese cars are Chery (21% share), Geely, Haval, Changan and Lifan brands.

According to Udalov's forecasts, sales of used cars in Russia by the end of the year will amount to about 6 million units. Last year, 6.24 million used passenger cars were purchased in the country, and this figure is the best in the history of the secondary market monitoring.

On the same day, it was reported that by the end of January – May 2026, 30.9 thousand new passenger cars of Japanese brands were registered in Russia. This is almost three times more (+195.5%) than in January – May of last year.
