Scammers started selling fake last-minute tours through Telegram channels
The scammers began distributing fake "last minute tours" through Telegram channels, posing as well-known tour operators or private agents. This was announced on June 17 by the press service of the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front.
"Scammers create Telegram channels that are duplicates of well-known travel agencies or disguise themselves as anonymous agents with access to confidential databases." They distribute ads about travel packages to Sochi, Turkey or Altai with a discount of up to 50%," RIA Novosti reports.
According to the press service, the victim is being pushed to pay quickly by sending a link to a phishing booking site. After the transfer of money, the correspondence is deleted, and the attackers stop contacting.
It is noted that it is recommended to book tours only on the official websites of tour operators or in trusted offices of companies. The expert also advises to carefully check the website address before making a payment and not transfer money to private cards through messengers.
Expert of the Popular Front project. The Galaktion Kucava analyst reported on June 17 that fraudsters at train stations began using a scheme asking them to look after luggage in order to extort money from passengers. According to him, the attackers ask the victim to leave the bag under supervision for a while, after which they hide. Upon returning, the owner of the item, often accompanied by an aggressive accomplice, a "witness," reports the loss of expensive equipment or a large amount of money from the luggage.
