The political scientist spoke about the collision of the US-Iran deal with a crisis of trust

Reaching a 14-point agreement between the United States and Iran is possible from a political point of view, but its practical implementation will be extremely difficult, including due to the crisis of confidence. This was stated on June 15 in an interview with Izvestia by senior lecturer at RUDN University, Candidate of Political Sciences Ahmad Vakhshitek.

"The main problem is that many of the economic and security-related provisions of the agreement depend on mutual trust. At the same time, the history of relations between Iran and the United States shows that the parties are facing a deep crisis of trust. The experience of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, known as the "Iran nuclear deal" of 2015. — Ed.) also demonstrated that even after reaching an agreement, disagreements about its implementation can weaken the agreements reached," Vakhshitek stressed.

According to the expert, the main part of the document is built around three sensitive issues. First of all, it is a cease-fire and the end of regional conflicts. Secondly, the participants need to resolve the issue of opening the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring energy security and ending the naval blockade of Iran by the US authorities. Thirdly, further negotiations on the nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions are planned.

The implementation of such urgent provisions as the ceasefire and the opening of the strait will be much easier than the subsequent stages. At the same time, the implementation of long-term or medium-term commitments related to sanctions, the nuclear program and security guarantees is a much more difficult task, the political scientist believes.

On the same day, American political scientist John Varoli, in an interview with Izvestia, noted that the United States has no sincere intentions to end the conflict in the Middle East, and they will violate the deal concluded with Iran, since their goal remains to defeat the Islamic Republic in the form of its destruction. He called the American deal a strategic deception and believes that in this way the United States wants to better prepare for a new round of escalation from a military-technical point of view.
