A massive invasion of the silkworm was registered in the Kurgan region
Birch forests in the Kurgan region may suffer due to the invasion of the unpaired silkworm. According to eyewitnesses, bare trees remain after the caterpillars.
The appearance of pests was reported by residents of the Kargapolsky district. So far, the caterpillars are damaging only birch trees, writes the news agency " <url>". However, pests can cause damage to several hundred plants, including most hardwoods and fruit trees.
The butterflies of the unpaired silkworm do not pose a danger to humans. But during the breeding season, caterpillars eat foliage in large areas of forests and gardens. Insects are characterized by sharp spikes in numbers that are almost impossible to predict.
The Department of Civil Protection, Environmental Protection and Natural Resources stressed that the situation remains under control. Despite the damage to the foliage, the trees remain viable.
