Renault, together with Thales, presented a crossover equipped with a platform for launching unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Eurosatory international Defense Industry exhibition in Paris. This was announced by Carscoops on May 15.

The prototype crossover called 4 Troop is based on the Renault Rafale model with a hybrid powerplant. It looks different from a regular SUV with a matte beige film on the body, headlight protection, mud tires and a special roof rack. The car is equipped with a special digital platform that turns the car into a carrier ship for drones.

"The 4 Troop model is capable of deploying and coordinating multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UAVs). It is also equipped with advanced sensors, secure tactical communications, "significant" data processing capabilities and decision support systems using artificial intelligence," the note says.

The plug-in hybrid power plant of the crossover has a V2L function for powering external electrical equipment. The power is 305 hp, the battery with a capacity of 22 kWh provides a range of 100 km only on electric power.

The 4 Troop model is in prototype status. According to Renault representatives, serial development of such vehicles based on conventional civilian vehicles is possible. They note that this solution is significantly cheaper than the production of specially designed military equipment.

Last year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov stated that if Renault expressed a desire to return to the Russian market, the Russian government, when making a decision, would take into account the supply of its equipment to Ukraine by the French company.
