Lantratova called on UNESCO to condemn the attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on cultural heritage sites

World institutions and organizations, including UNESCO, should condemn attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on cultural heritage sites. This was announced on June 15 by the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova.

"The actions of the Kiev regime violate the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. I addressed the Director General of UNESCO, Khaled Al-Anana. I urge you to give an assessment of what is happening," she wrote in the Maks messenger.

According to Lantratova, the Kiev regime is attacking not only civilian infrastructure, but also trying to destroy historical memory. She called the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units barbarism, which cannot be justified.

"Museums, monuments, historical buildings are not military targets. An attempt to destroy such a place shows not their strength, but their impotence," Lantratova stressed.

Sergei Naryshkin, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society and Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, said on June 15 that Nazism in any form is an enemy of culture, historical memory and human civilization. Thus, he commented on the recent missile attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the building of the Defense of Sevastopol panorama.

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the incident a barbaric act and offered to pay tickets to representatives of the UNESCO secretariat in Sevastopol so that they could personally see what the Ukrainian militants had done with this work of art.
