Portugal's largest bank has warned some Russians about closing their accounts

The account holders of the Portuguese bank Caixa Geral de Depositos from Russia began receiving messages warning about the closure of accounts. This was reported by RBC on June 15, citing sources.

Several Russian clients of the bank reported that they had received a newsletter from a financial institution that their accounts would be forcibly blocked from August 14 this year. Some of them have been receiving since June 9th.

Among the recipients of this mailing list were mostly holders of Russian passports without a residence permit in Portugal or those who had not updated the information about the residence permit in the country in the bank.

RBC clarified that one of the clients who received such a notification at the bank's branch was informed that Caixa Geral de Depositos intends to stop servicing all Russian citizens without a residence permit in Portugal.

The volume of cash in circulation increased by more than 380 billion rubles.

In November last year, the BBC Russian service wrote that Russian customers of Revolut Bank who have long-term visas or residence permits in European Union countries are reporting massive account blockages. The bank's press service then pointed out that the company needed to comply with the sanctions restrictions adopted by the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
