The Russian Foreign Ministry reminded Russians about the risks of being detained when traveling to the European Union

Russian citizens who have planned trips to countries that are part of the European Union (EU) should be aware of the risks of encountering possible detentions there on various pretexts. This was announced on June 15 by Alexey Klimov, Director of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"In the current geopolitical situation, Russians should also take into account the existing serious risks of detention, including the prospect of extradition to a third country. There can be any pretexts: visiting Crimea, support or participation in a special military operation, suspicion of violating the sanctions regime," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Klimov urged his compatriots to carefully consider the expediency of entering the EU and take into account a number of recommendations for obtaining a visa and passing border control.

So, he warned those who wished about the increased queues at the visa centers, and also recalled the mandatory conclusion of a voluntary medical insurance contract abroad.

The director of the Consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation clarified that those passengers who will be forced to make transfers inside the Schengen area should take much longer to pass through the control.

On May 14, Grigory Lukyantsev, head of the Department of Multilateral Cooperation on Human Rights at the Russian Foreign Ministry, warned Russians traveling abroad about the risks of being extradited to the United States. He ranked all the countries of Europe and Latin America, as well as Australia, Armenia, Canada, Israel, South Korea, Morocco, Maldives, Singapore, Thailand, Fiji, Sri Lanka and Liberia among those countries where the corresponding threat is increased.
