Russia remains committed to the agreements reached in Alaska last August and looks forward to their implementation. This was stated on June 15 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with his Belarusian counterpart Maxim Ryzhenkov.
"We are committed, and we confirmed this today in a conversation with Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko (President of Belarus. — Ed.). We are committed to the agreements reached on August 15 last year in Alaska," he said.
The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had repeatedly stated his acceptance of the proposal received from the American leader Donald Trump. Moscow, as Lavrov stressed, expects that the position formed on the basis of Washington's proposal will be implemented.
At the same time, as the Minister of the Russian Foreign Ministry explained, the Europeans are making erroneous conclusions about their right to put forward ultimatums to the Russian side and expect them to be accepted.
"These calculations are, of course, for completely useless purposes, and they are illusory, which was confirmed during the visit of the three ambassadors of Britain, France and Germany to our ministry. My deputy talked to them," Lavrov said.
According to him, the heads of the listed diplomatic missions did not bring anything new and continued their obsessive attempts to offer their services out of fear of being left out.
On June 4, Putin, speaking at a meeting with the heads of international news agencies, said that European countries should abandon the colonial approach and communicate with Russia on equal terms. On June 12, he also indicated Moscow's willingness to negotiate with Kiev, taking into account modern realities and its national interests. At the same time, he called on all states to live amicably with Russia and clarified that God is always with her.
On May 25, Lavrov reminded Washington of the Russian-American agreements reached in Anchorage. Speaking with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he said that the implementation of the agreement opened the way to a settlement in Ukraine. He, in turn, later, on June 3, said that the United States intends to maintain diplomatic channels and ties with Russia. This, as Rubio explained, remains an important element of international security and diplomatic cooperation.
