- The economist spoke about the influence of geopolitics on the gold and silver market
The gold and silver market is showing resilience despite a decrease in geopolitical tensions following reports of preliminary agreements between the United States and Iran. Taisiya Veprentseva, an economist and founder of the Delomant Group consulting company, told Izvestia about this on June 15.
According to her, the weakening interest in protective assets is partially offset by expectations of further decisions by the US Federal Reserve on the key interest rate. Investors continue to take into account both foreign policy factors and the macroeconomic agenda.
"Gold has traditionally remained one of the key capital preservation tools in times of uncertainty. Even with the reduction of geopolitical risks, quotes are supported by the dynamics of the dollar, US bond yields and expectations of easing the Fed's monetary policy," the expert explained.
According to her, the main event of the current week will be the meeting of the American regulator. The short-term dynamics of the precious metals market will largely depend on its final signals. The Fed's softer rhetoric tends to boost interest in gold and silver.
At the same time, silver remains highly volatile, since its value is affected not only by investment demand, but also by industrial consumption. Among the key factors is the development of high—tech industries, including energy, electronics and solar panel production.
In the near future, Veprentseva added, the precious metals market will be shaped by the Fed's decisions, inflationary expectations, the state of the global economy and the geopolitical situation. Against this background, gold and silver continue to be viewed by investors as instruments of diversification and capital protection.
On June 15, Osman Kabaloev, the head of Rosvexel, a company established by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, said that it was not worth keeping savings in gold. He noted that it is still difficult to predict whether a record in terms of purchases of physical gold will be set this year. At the same time, the expert stressed that over 330 tons of precious metal are mined annually in Russia, and experts expect an increase in production volumes in the coming years.
