- Politico reported on the concern of the EU and the United States over the drop in Starmer's rating
The European Union (EU) and the United States note the decline in the authority of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and express concern about the development of relations with London in the event of his successor coming to power. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on June 15.
"Current and former diplomats <...> have stated that, in their opinion, Starmer's authority has fallen in the run-up to his possible departure from the post of prime minister and that they have little idea what to expect from [the likely new British Prime Minister, Manchester Mayor Andy] Burnham, who is considered his successor," - it says in the article.
According to the newspaper, in Washington and Brussels, Starmer is appreciated for showing solidarity with Kiev and established contacts with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Politico's interlocutors believe that the new leader may take a long time to build a relationship with the Ukrainian leader.
Some concerns were expressed by a representative of the American authorities. According to him, transatlantic cooperation has already been undermined by Starmer's refusal to support strikes on Iran, and under Burnham, cooperation between the parties could seriously deteriorate.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation, jokingly asked the aliens on June 10 to convince Starmer to resign. He added that the British Prime Minister needs to show that he can give hope to Western civilization by leaving office.
