The physicist told about the rules of behavior at the sight of a ball lightning

Ball lightning is attracted by switched-on electrical appliances, including mobile phones, so they pose a danger during bad weather. This was announced on June 14 by Vladimir Bychkov, a leading researcher at the Moscow State University Faculty of Physics, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Chairman of the Russian Committee on Ball Lightning.

"Ball lightning can strike both computers and mobile phones, so they should be turned off during a thunderstorm and put away from themselves — they electrically attract this object," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Bychkov also explained that ball lightning can be attracted to a person in close proximity to him. According to him, this is due to the presence of fluid in the body and the lightning charge. The scientist also said that if bad weather caught a person on the street and several lightning charges struck nearby at once, then to avoid meeting with ball lightning, you should lie down on the ground — so a natural phenomenon can fly by.

Marina Makarova, a leading employee of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, reported on May 28 that the likelihood of fireballs increases in summer, but it is almost impossible to encounter this rare phenomenon. According to her, the phenomenon is very rare and poorly studied — the statistics of meetings are too low. At the same time, the danger posed by ball lightning is undeniable: the scientist who first began to describe them died from such lightning, and other people have repeatedly found damage from them in their country houses.
