Actor from the TV series "Seventeen Moments of Spring" Paul Butkevich has died.

Latvian film actor Paul Butkevich, who played about 150 film roles, has died at the age of 85. This was reported on June 12 by the Baltijas Balss news portal.

Butkevich was born in 1940. After graduating from Riga 11th Secondary School in 1959, he studied at the Riga Polytechnic Institute and worked at the VEF plant as an automatic telephone operator. At the same time, he participated in artistic life: he worked at the Robert Ligers Pantomime Theater in Riga, then at the Dailes Theater Studio, and also studied at the law and History and Philosophy faculties of the University of Latvia and at the Department of Choral Conducting of the Latvian State Conservatory.

Butkevich began his film career in 1963 with a role in the television film The Unsung Song. A few years later, he received the main role in the film "The Hippocratic Oath", and also starred in the films of Roland Kalnins "Stone and Fragments" and "Breathe deeply". The film "Breathe Deeply" is included in the Cultural Canon of Latvia.

A special place in the filmography is occupied by participation in Soviet cinema, including work in the project "Seventeen Moments of Spring", thanks to which the actor became known to a wide audience.
