The International Football Federation (FIFA) publishes data on the number of spectators attending the 2026 World Cup matches based on scanned tickets, rather than the actual occupancy of the stadium. This was announced on June 12 by a representative of the organization in response to a request from The Independent.

"Official attendance data reflects the number of scanned tickets and the number of spectators in the stadium, rather than a visual assessment of the occupancy of seats at any given time during the match," he said.

Earlier, some foreign journalists stated that FIFA allegedly overestimated the attendance figures for the match between the national teams of South Korea and the Czech Republic.
