- The head of the FMBA announced the registration of the first pneumococcal vaccine in 2026.
The first Russian 16-valent drug against pneumococcal infection will receive a registration certificate this year. This was announced on June 12 by the head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) Veronika Skvortsova.
According to her, the vaccine was developed on the basis of strains common in Russia that affect the severity of the disease and antibiotic resistance.
"The drug is produced in a full cycle — from the selection of strains to the finished dosage form," Skvortsova told RIA Novosti.
In March, she announced the completion of the third phase of clinical trials involving children aged 2 to 17 years.
Pneumococcal infection is dangerous for the development of severe inflammatory diseases, including pneumonia, meningitis, sepsis, otitis media and sinusitis. The pathogen is capable of rapidly affecting vital organs, is resistant to a number of antibiotics, and can pose a deadly threat, especially to children and elderly patients.
Skvortsova announced on June 9 that in 2026 it is planned to obtain permission for the use of two glioblastoma vaccines. According to her, the first development is a peptide vaccine. Approval for the mRNA drug is also expected at the end of the year.
