On June 11, a Russian fan brought the Russian flag to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which he is taking with him for the third such championship in a row.

As the man noted, he was born in Transbaikalia, in the city of Nerchinsk. The fan tries to support and not forget his small homeland. The flag of the Russian Federation he brought with him reads "Nerchinsk" in large capital letters.

"This Russian flag is with me at the third World Cup in a row. I have previously attended tournaments in Russia and Qatar. Now I live in St. Petersburg myself, but I try to support my small homeland," he told TASS.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 11 in Mexico City, and it will last over a month. At the same time, the starting lineups of the national teams of Mexico and South Africa for the opening match of the World Cup became known. Rangel, Montes, Vazquez, Gallardo, Reyes, Gutierrez, Lira, Fidalgo, Alvarado, Quinones and Jimenez will be the hosts of the tournament from the first minute.

The striker of the Mexican national football team, Julian Quinones, scored the first goal in the championship on June 11, opening the scoring in the ninth minute of the match. He broke into the center of the penalty area and shot past the goalkeeper. At the end of the game, the winner with a score of 2:0 was the Mexican national team.

On the same day, the Russian flag was hung at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City as a decoration of the arena on the occasion of the World Cup. Also, the roof of the arena was decorated with numerous flags of other states.
