The number of blood donors in Russia has increased by 20 in five years%

The number of blood donors in Russia has increased by 20% in five years and reached 1,552 million people. This was announced on June 11 by Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA).

"We have managed to increase the number of donors by 20% from 2020 to 2025. That is, according to the results of 2025, we reached 1.552 million donors," she said during the information and educational campaign "The Blood Donation Path: from the Moscow center to the field hospital."

At the same time, the multiplicity of donations increased, so that the total number of donations increased by 36% over five years and exceeded 3.7 million. The head of the FMBA also reported that during this period, the volume of whole blood procurement increased by 47%. By the end of 2025, this figure exceeded 2.7 million liters.

In addition, the volume of blood plasma procurement increased by 37%. Currently, almost 1 million liters of plasma are harvested annually in Russia. Skvortsova noted that the existing reserves make it possible to fully meet the needs of both military hospitals and civilian medical institutions.

On May 19, the press service of the Ministry of Health of the region reported that more than 36 thousand residents of the Moscow region have become blood donors since the beginning of 2026. Since the beginning of the year, 30 tons of donated blood and its components have been harvested in the Moscow region. Compared to the same period last year, this volume increased by 1.5 tons.
