The State Duma pointed to the abuse of FIDE's powers due to the suspension of the FHR membership.

The Council of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) has exceeded its powers by suspending the membership of the Russian Chess Federation (RSHF) in the organization. Dmitry Svishchev, a State Duma deputy, told Izvestia on June 11.

"The decision is unprecedentedly harsh. I don't understand how an international federation has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of a national federation. <...> I am sure that this is an excess of their authority," he stressed.

The relevant decision was made on June 11. FIDE explained that they acted in accordance with Article 26.10 of the organization's Charter. At the same time, FIDE emphasized its alleged commitment to protecting "the rights and interests of individual chess players." The statement noted that the measures taken do not limit the possibility of individual players participating in tournaments.

The upcoming tournament has already been marked by international conflicts, stories surrounding the participants, and fans' discontent.

On December 14 last year, FIDE allowed the return of Russian players to the international arena with the permission of their national symbols. Some time later, on January 7 of this year, such an initiative was appealed by the national teams of five countries: Ukraine, Great Britain, Estonia, Germany and Norway.
