Dmitriev: to achieve peace in Ukraine, it is necessary to make a realistic decision

Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), announced in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung on June 11 that there was a ready-made realistic plan for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. Dmitriev's statement

Dmitriev said that a realistic solution to the conflict in Ukraine is on the negotiating table. If Kiev approves it, the conflict with Russia will end immediately, he assured.

"I would say that it is actually pretty clear what needs to be done to achieve peace. [There must be] a realistic solution, because, remember, some people have previously proposed unrealistic solutions. Thus, I believe that a realistic solution is on the table. If Ukraine accepts it, peace will come immediately," he said.

Dmitriev noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously clearly outlined a vision for a settlement, and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, according to him, was well aware of the position of Moscow and Washington on this issue.

According to the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the states of the European Union (EU) are beginning to realize the need to end the conflict on realistic terms.

"We are glad that the European position is changing, because previously the European position was unrealistic. And I hope that Europe will become more realistic," Dmitriev expressed hope.

As an example of readiness for dialogue, he cited the words of representatives of unnamed European companies who want to return to the Russian market. Dmitriev cited a sharp drop in revenue by 30-40% among the reasons. He also said that some companies do business with Russia anyway, "they just don't advertise it."

Russia's position on the conflict in Ukraine

On June 4, Putin announced that the conflict in Ukraine would quickly come to a natural resolution if Kiev agreed to the compromises discussed in Anchorage. According to him, Russia is ready and willing to resolve the situation by peaceful means, based on the agreements.

On June 8, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Russia is ready for honest negotiations with Ukraine without cheating. He expressed hope that the experience of previous failures, when the West refused to implement the agreements it supported, would not be repeated with regard to the understandings reached in Anchorage by the presidents of Russia and the United States.
