On June 11, the United States resumed strikes against Iran, and the republic responded by blocking shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Read more about the situation in the Middle East in the Izvestia article.

US Strikes

On the night of June 11, the Central Command of the United States Armed Forces (CENTCOM) announced the launch of additional strikes "in self-defense" against several targets in Iran. It is noted that the attacks were a response to the actions of the Islamic Republic. Shortly before that, the Mehr news agency reported on the operation of air defense systems in southern Iran.

Later, the agency reported that the United States and Iran were fighting in the Persian Gulf region, and the sounds of explosions thundered on the islands of Qeshm and Hengam, as well as in other areas of the republic.

"The sounds of explosions can be heard in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Minab, Siriq and Hengam Island," the publication says.

US President Donald Trump told Fox News that representatives of Iran had asked him to stop bombing targets in the country.

At the same time, according to the Tasnim news agency, the statement about direct talks between the US leader and Iranian officials is false.

"Trump's claim that Iranian officials spoke directly with him and demanded an end to the bombing is a complete lie," the agency said in a Telegram channel post.

The politician noted that the bombings in Iran should stop soon. According to the TV channel, high-ranking Iranian officials made such a request to the American leader.

At the same time, in case of refusal of negotiations, Trump promised to launch powerful strikes against Iran. According to the American leader, this attack, in case of Tehran's refusal from the deal, will be carried out on the night from Thursday to Friday.

Some time later, CENTCOM announced the completion of the US Armed Forces strikes on the Islamic Republic. They also reported that the targets included communications systems, air defense systems and intelligence facilities of Iran. Following the operation, the agency published footage of missile launches at targets.

According to the military, the targets allegedly threatened the security of the United States and foreign merchant ships operating in international waters.

Escalation in the Strait of Hormuz

Amid renewed strikes, Al Jazeera reported that Iran had blocked the Strait of Hormuz, and any vessel trying to pass through it would be shelled. Later, Iran attacked two vessels that were trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on their own. It is noted that the republic will consider any approach to the water corridor as cooperation with the enemy.

At the same time, CENTCOM reported that commercial vessels continue to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The publication also refutes information from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that the Strait of Hormuz is closed.

"Commercial vessels continue to pass in and out of the Strait of Hormuz this evening," the military said.

Iran's response

As Mehr reported, the IRGC of Iran has launched the first phase of an offensive operation against the backdrop of renewed US strikes. It is specified that both missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are used as part of the operation.

Next, the SNN TV channel reported that Iran had used UAVs to attack the forces of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. During this wave of drone strikes, communications antennas and radar installations of the Patriot system of the Fifth Fleet were attacked.

"After the invasion of the US army in the south of the country, the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain was attacked by army drones," the publication says.

Later, the IRGC announced in a statement that it had attacked 18 targets at US military bases in the region. It is noted that the strikes were carried out in response to the actions of the US military against a number of corps units, coastal posts, police facilities and the Bandar Abbas airport area.
